How to Landscape - Tutorial for Everyone

By Rosie Bennet

Knowing how to landscape the property adds both beauty and higher financial value to the home. It is not necessary to seek the help of a professional to help you out, but a novice with absolutely no idea can acquire the knowledge on "how to landscape" just by understanding several fundamental principles.

The Basics

As per the definition, landscaping is providing improvements to the piece of area present outside your home. The changes may be for practical or either for artistic reasons. Installing the landscape lighting, for instance, provides the required illumination on the pathway/sidewalk, while planting specific flowers and shrubs can add a little bit of color and fragrance to it.

Everything surrounding your house, whether they are tools or plants or junk, can affect your property's environment either in a negative or in a positive way. Studying how to landscape just begins with this fundamental principle and then starts building on the principle that by adding up or subtracting the items from your land, you can enhance the overall value as well as appearance to your house. Another basic law in knowing how to landscape the area is that all the things should be harmonious to each other, either through colors, or through placement of some specific plants or through textures. This is called landscape designing. It doesn't need the help of a professional but even an amateur can work this out.

Time to Begin

The basic step involved in designing the landscape is to ping on to your property's current status. How are your trees? Are they healthy or are they in need of some trimming or are they ready to be removed? Are there any cracked sidewalks or dead shrubs? May be you have a garden that has gone out of your fence. Basically, the deteriorating conditions in the yard or the existing plants are needed to be cleaned up, pruned or removed from the garden.

The smartest way to gain knowledge on how to landscape is to look at the photographs. Your bookstore, library or nursery might have the resources that can show you the already accomplished projects. The basic important idea in designing the landscape is to classify certain shrubs and flowers together into a category for the color reasons or for the practical reasons. Select the color that best suits the color of your house. Few like to add a vivid strike to the gardens and they even try to match the color of the flowers to that of the shutters or even trim the house work.

Another vital consideration is placing the plants in a place where they can grow better. Plants that require a lot of sunlight should be permitted to grow in places where all these conditions are met. If the new plants need plenty of water, then consider installing the automatic sprinkler system. Drawing a picture of the yard and the plant color to get an idea of how the landscaping project will look is always helpful. Knowing how to landscape the property shall offer increased financial value and a sense of accomplishment to your home.
