Compare New York Car Insurance Quotes Today!

By Ricardo Liguriano

Has it been a while since you compared car insurance prices? Are you wondering if you could save on your premiums by making changes to your car insurance policy? The best way to get those questions answered is to check online resources and get a personalized quote.

As with so many other important purchases we make in life, the cheapest option may not always be the best. The goal in shopping for a car insurance policy is to make sure you have the protection you need, at a competitive price.

You'll want to have some basic information handy to get a quote online: your driver's license number, the exact make and model of each car you want to insure, your Social Security number, and dates and details of any accidents you've had in the last few years.

It's important at this stage to give complete and accurate information to make sure that you get a realistic quote. New York car insurance quotes will generally be based on your age and marital status, the type of car you drive, your driving record, and your credit history. Crime statistics for your area will also be a major factor; New York City residents can expect to be quoted higher premiums than will people who live elsewhere in the state.

A popular way to lower your premiums is to choose a high deductible on Collision or Comprehensive coverage. If you drive an older car with a low book value, you may even choose to forgo Collision or Comprehensive completely, since this coverage is optional in New York State.

You'll find that New York car insurance quotes are considerably lower for a liability-only policy, but if you choose this option you'll have to be ready to cover your own expenses if your car is stolen, vandalized, or damaged in an accident where you are at fault.

Car insurance today is a buyer's market; as you collect New York car insurance quotes you may find that you are eligible for a variety of discounts and promotional offers. Take the time to shop around -- you'll be surprised at how easy it is to save money on car insurance. - 2368

Choose Birding Binoculars You Can Afford

By Donna Bessken

Will the bird binoculars you choose work well with eyeglasses? Some are better than others for eye relief and eyeglasses. With good binoculars you sometimes feel like you are looking with your own eyes only the view is closer, magnified and clear. You hardly notice the weight in your hands while you are watching some curious little warbler in the brush. How big do you want that image to be? Well, that will depend on many things. How heavy will the binoculars be with extra magnification? Can you hold the binoculars steady if they are magnified more than 10 times (10x)? I find it hard to hold 12x steady for any length of time without support. But I have small hands and that makes a difference too.

In addition to weight and magnification and comfort in the field, you want to keep in mind how much you can see. What is the field of view for those binoculars? While there are many considerations to make when purchasing binoculars, one consideration depending upon the desired use, is field of view. Field of view refers to how much you will see through the binoculars in relation to a fixed distance from the object you are observing. It will be helpful to have a wider field of view to be able to find small birds in the brush and across wide expanses of ocean or desert terrain.

If you are wear eyeglasses or have macular degeneration or other uncorrected vision conditions, this is likely to affect which binoculars are best suited for you. While you may need higher magnification for viewing, it is harder to hold those heavier binoculars steady and in focus. Consider getting a tripod to help you keep it steady.

Let's clear up what those numbers mean. If your binoculars are labeled 10x42, it means you will be seeing things magnified ten times. The first number is the magnification, 10x. The size of the objective lens is described in millimeters in the second number. So in this case the diameter of the lens at the other end of the eyepiece is 42mm wide. A larger diameter lens is not only heavier, but it lets in more light and you can see things more clearly in less light than with a smaller lens.

My hands are small so I must say that compact binoculars are very valuable options for me.compact binoculars. It almost goes without saying that waterproof and fog proof binoculars are preferred. I also want them to be sturdy and durable. Will they be able to withstand being dropped now and then? Of course, if you wear your strap around your neck all the time they are less likely to fall, but, just in case, are they sturdy? I have lost a lot of lens covers at overlooks.

The binoculars you buy are intended to enhance your field trips or birding expeditions, so don't stress out over them. Take your time and read some reviews. Every manufacturer has a website full of detailed information and there are plenty of reviews online for you to compare while you are still looking. Buy the best binoculars that fit you that also fit your budget and you will be a happy birdwatcher and even have some cash in your pocket for lunch, maybe.

I have found Leupold binoculars 10x32 are a nice compromise size for me. They are a little larger than my compact Bushnell Binoculars at 8x25 that I carry with me wherever I go, just in case I see interesting birds, butterflies or flowers in the field. I know I have a fine pair of excellent quality binoculars that are waterproof, fog proof and guaranteed for life.

If your binoculars fit you, and you can see clearly with plenty of light and magnification and they are not too heavy to hold, you probably have found the ones you need to buy. That is what is most important. Remember to stay within your budget and check on the field of vision and depth of field while you are looking. That is what it takes when you get right down to the details. - 2368

One Way Car Rentals in Australia

By Amy Nutt

Australia is a vast and spacious country with many delightful and beautiful sights to see. Once travelers arrive in Australia, they usually have a great number of places that they want to see in a short amount of time. Therefore, a rental car becomes a great choice. Some try to travel by taxi cab, but this is not a very reliable means of getting around as the cabs are usually very busy. For instance, finding a taxi at the airport can be very frustrating and who wants to spend their first few hours of their vacation standing in the airport trying to wrangle a cab?

When it comes to car rentals, most companies will do their best to please the customer and meet their needs. One of the ways they do this is to offer one-way rental services. This is especially handy in Australia due to the long distances between coastlines and communities. By using a rental, especially one-way rental, it allows you to travel at your own pace and enjoy you vacation at a leisurely rate instead of having to stick to tight schedules.

The term, one-way rental, simply means that you can rent a vehicle at one location, and once you are finished with the car, you can drop it off at a different rental location, as long as its at a branch belonging to the same rental company. There are usually fees charged for this convenience which will depend on the rental companys policies and rental packages This fee helps to pay for the company to have the vehicle returned to its original car lot.

Many times you can arrange your car rental directly at the airport upon your arrival in Australia. Regardless of where you rent or what company you rent from. Make sure that you review the agreement fully with the staff before leaving the office. Some regulations can be different in Australia than other countries so play it safe by making sure that you understand all the terms of the contract. There can also be a variety of add-ons to the rental package, most of course involving fees, so if you are on a tight budget check the add-on and only get the ones that you really want and need.

Unfortunately, not many of the local car rental companies offer one-way rentals; especially if they are small, locally owned, and operated rental companies. It would be impractical and too expensive for them to operate in that fashion and they would soon find themselves out of business if they tried. The inconvenience of trying to find a way to get the car returned to them would simply be too time-consuming and costly, as well as a logistics nightmare.

National chains of car rental companies do offer this service throughout all of Australia. There are so many reasons to offer one way car rentals, and such a large demand for it, that the large companies would be considered foolish to refuse to offer such a service. It is important to shop around if time permits so that you can obtain the best one way car rental deal. You will not be limited to just one or two companies to choose from and each will offer a variety of package options as well as vehicle style and sizes.

Because Australia has a number one way car rental companies, you will not have a problem securing a rental. Once you find a car rental company whose policies and deals suit your needs, plot your course and drive to your first destination, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this astonishingly beautiful country. - 2368

The Woodworkers Router Buying Guide - DIY

By Ryan Henders

Anyone that is into woodworking or is even a general handy man will tell you that the tools of the trade are not cheap. If they are well looked after though they will provide many years of satisfaction and service.

Ideally, to start with you want to purchase tools that can be used for multiple things. A good example of this is the Router. It?s wonderful for cutting shapes, patterns and trims for example.

When its time to buy one then there are some specifics that you should know and there will be decisions to make.

You will need to choose between a fixed base and plunge router. With the fixed how deep you are going to cut has to be preset. These are the cheaper of the two. A plunge router will let you do your depth adjustments while it is running. This is good when you need to make several passes.

When you are looking for how much power a router consists of you will note it is rated by HP. Naturally the higher the HP the more power but also more weight. Motors contain copper wire and the more wire there is usually the stronger the motor is. You may have noticed that most of your tools are rated by amps as opposed to the HP. Amps requires independent lab testing but HP ratings are done by the manufacturer so may not be as accurate. So when you are purchasing check out the amp ratings.

Router bits are referred to by their shank, which is the part of the bit that goes into the router. There are three sizes ? inch, 3/8 inch and ? inch. There is a wider choice of ?-inch bits available so keep that in mind when you are buying your router.

You may hear the term EVS this is referring to electronic variable speed which are the newer type routers for the woodworking enthusiasts. This means you can adjust the speed of the bit. This is a safety feature that allows you to slow down the larger bits. The smaller bits are not a major concern at higher speeds. Your project will determine if you really need this type of router.

Changing the bits on routers can be a bit of a drag especially for the older models, which require the use of wrenches. The newer models have spindle locks, which only require the use of one wrench instead of two.

Various models come with different switches with some being toggle and others trigger switches. Then aside from your router, there are several accessories you can purchase such as edge guides, jigs, bushings or router tables.

When you are ready to purchase shop around and see what the newest models have to offer. Then make you choice of that which is going to meet your needs and your budget. It?s better to buy a quality piece of equipment that you may pay a bit more for now but is going to last you a lot longer than one of the budget models. - 2368

Woodworking Guide To Common Wood Defects

By Ryan Henders

All woodworkers should know that natural wood is unpredictable in quality and type. The key to good craftsmanship is working with what you have. This means taking that imperfect piece of work and doing something with it.

You may discover that the piece of wood you have picked out as a blue gray tinge to it. This is most often seen in pine, or sycamore and sometimes holly. It?s caused by a mold where it may have been stored that was too warm or not enough ventilation. The only solution is to use that piece of wood where it?s not likely to be seen, perhaps on the bottom of your project. If you are going to be using a dark stain then it?s not going to be a problem for you.

It seems no matter how hard you inspected your wood, that when you go it home you still notice a bow in it. This is often the result of poor storage where moisture evaporation was evident. It?s difficult to work with pieces like this. You can cut it into smaller pieces or if worse comes to worse then nail or screw into place but make sure the bulge is facing out.

Usually if you are going to detect any splits or crack in the wood you are going to see it at the end and it will run along the grains. Drying the wood too fast has created this problem. If the cracks are too bad not only will it affect the look of the finished project, it could weaken it as well. The only solution here is to work around the cracks, or if possible cut that section off and discard it.

If wood is not dried correctly and stored properly than its going to warp and be difficult to work with. You will often find that this wood was cut from the center of the tree. You can cut the high spots away with your table saw if necessary.

Another type of warping is along the face of the board edge to edge. It means that one face dried faster than the other did. It?s difficult to work with wood like this. You could try adding some pressure and letting it dry that way.

A dark knot in the wood can enhance its overall look unless it?s loose. This is as a result of a surface dead branch. Ideally, you will want to glue it in place, and then apply putty to it.

Excessive sap residue evident on the board was caused when the tree was injured in some way prior to cutting. Either cut it off or scrape it and fill the indent where it was.

Dark streaks normally caused by dull planer blades. Either sand it or cut it down. Other minor problems may be breaks, a tight knot, and twisted ends from warping. A good lesson is to learn about the various types of woods and imperfections and this will guide you in what to look for how to avoid the problem or at the very least perhaps correct it. - 2368

Different Uses For Metal Carport Kits

By John A Moore

Metal carport kits are the cheapest and easiest way of constructing a new carport. The kits come with full and detailed instructions and most can be constructed with a day or two using only the most basic of household tools. These pre-fab carport kits are generally made out of steel or aluminum and come with everything you will need to complete the construction process.

There is some lingo to learn when you start to look at carports, so I'm going to define some of the terms you may hear when you begin your research. Two main distinctions are attached and detached. Detached carports are stand-alone structures with supports are all four corners, and possibly along both walls. Attached car ports (also called lean to carports) share one side with another building, generally your house. Supports are only needed along one side, as the other side is supported by attaching the roof to the other building. Often attached carports will either have a flat roof or sloped roof (also known as single slope car ports). Detached carports most often have a roof style matching the buildings around it.

Metal carport kits serve a variety of different purposes. Many of the purposes have nothing to do with protecting your car from the elements. These days many single slope metal carports are used as roofs over side patios. It is only upon a closer look that you even notice that these awning-like structures are actually initially designed as carports. Metal carports that attach to your house also provide ideal and protected covered play areas for young children. With the possible addition of a small temporary fence and a sandbox, carports of this nature can provide the perfect and worry free outdoor play area for your children.

Stand alone or self supporting metal carports can be used as a protected gathering area in at your cottage or in your backyard. These shelters can be as big or as little as need be. If a double carport is constructed then the area can seat up to 20 people. Benches and or picnic tables can be installed permanently or temporarily. You can also use the area to build a nice outdoor kitchen and BBQ area. Using a standalone carport for this purpose will result in never being held hostage by the weather.

I have discussed non-conventional use of carports but, of course, carports can also be used to protect your car or cars from the elements. With some careful planning carports can be used for non-conventional and conventional purposes. During the summer months a carport can be used for picnicking and during the winter months it can be used to shelter your vehicle. For a larger protected area or to store your RV you can buy a metal RV carport kit. These kits are generally longer and higher than the average carport size.

Good quality metal carports can are available from a number of reputable online dealers. Some dealers offer free 3 day delivery and a no questions asked money back guarantee. Do your homework and visit the websites of a number of different dealers. Remember, your family might enjoy the benefits of a metal carport kit in a number of ways that you haven't even though of. - 2368

How To Work With Work Putty - Woodworking Help

By Ryan Henders

All too often, novice woodworkers don't realize the power of wood putty. No doubt, they have heard about it and perhaps worked with it once or twice but had poor results. Chances are they either used the wrong product or the wrong application or maybe even both. It is sometimes referred to as wood filler or wood patch. It may be a water base or a solvent based. Solvent base has probably been the favored choice in the past. The water-based products have really made some excellent strides in their performance and are now being used more.

There is nitrocellulose-based putty. This dries very fast. To clean up all you need is some diluted acetone or lacquer thinner.

A gypsum-based putty comes in a powder form and you have to mix the proper ratio with water. If you clean up while it?s wet, it?s simply done with plain water. If you let the gypsum dry and try to clean up with water, it just isn?t going to happen.

Finally, an acrylic based putty will clean up with water as well until it dries then after that you will need to clean with acetone or toluene.

There are advantages to working with water wood-based fillers because they don?t have the heavy fumes to them that the solvent-based ones do and they are easier to work with. What woodworkers like about it the most though is how easy it is to clean up. It is also more economical for storage as it doesn?t? dry out as fast as the solvent-based putties do.

All wood putty is really is a glue mixed with material such a sawdust or gypsum for example. It creates a binder that holds the filler together.

Once you get used to working with wood putty ideally, you will want to keep both on hand if you are an avid wood worker or do it yourselfer.

Knowing which putty to use in the beginning may be a bit of a challenge. You want one that is going to stick and not shrink once it has dried. Another attribute about a good filler is you should need to sand it a great deal and it should have a satin finish to it afterwards.

Woods like poplar, rosewood or walnut just to name a few have very large pores and open grains. You can use wood filler to even out some of the grains in these types of woods.

Another good feature about wood putty is that it comes it different colors, which makes it much easier for blending. Ideally, before you use any of the colors check it on an unobserved piece of the wood to see what the end result is going to be. It may come out lighter or darker than you intended. If you are new to using wood putty ask your local paint supplier which seems to be the favored by most of their customers. This often gives you a good indication on how good and effective a product will be. - 2368

Fell Walking in England's Lake District

By Martin Hiltlyne

Maybe you have never been to heaven which is the Lake District in England. It is a overpowering expanse of valleys and mountains. If your thinking about taking a vacation there, and your thinking about the time you have and want to use it in the best way, to see as much of the landscape as you can.

There is so much to see? Mountains big and small some easy some hard to climb. Just pick up a guide book and read the reviews of the experts. You will soon find out that fell walking is the best way to see the Lake District and all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other.

Scafell Pike, Scafell, Helvellyn, and Skiddaw are the only true mountains in the Lake district because they reach over three thousand feet. All the other mountains are known as Fells and to walk them is known as fell walking. You can explore all of them by this method which is almost the same as hiking.

Those that wish to participate in this satisfying activity should be sure to research the area to which they will be travelling prior to planning their trip so that the proper preparations can be made for both terrain and weather.

When projecting a fell walking trip, it is crucial to be both well prepared and also not too bring too much, as giving way to do either could make for an displeasing situation. Before constructing a final list of what you will bring, determine whether you will be walking mostly in the low-level valleys or whether you will be attempting to summit a peak. Think that higher elevations in Lake District are likely to be much cooler than the valleys and will require that you bring warmer clothing, walking boots and proper emergency supplies in case of an injury. Necessities in any pack are water, high energy foods, waterproof layers, whistle, flashlight and compass.

Before embarking on your trip, it might also be a good idea to consult with experience walkers via an online resource site or respected book on fell walking. Some of these resources may offer maps, pictures of trails and summits, and advice from walkers who have visited the Lakes District many times in the past. Another resource to consult would also be the website of the Lakes District National Park, which not only contains information about events and activities in the Park, but also offers the latest weather information. - 2368

Importance of Certifications While Choosing An Auto Technician

By Rand Stuck

This question apparently occurs to a lot of people who believe its a waste of money to consult a certified technician when it comes to their vehicles. Why not simply call in the neighborhood quack, who has always proved useful with a set of tools, instead? Well, there are various arguments against, but the strongest come in the form of the test lineup and mission statements of ASE (The Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) and I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair). These are the two most reputable organizations that certify auto service technicians after conducting tests. Go through the brief backgrounds of each organization, their respective mission statements, and finally their test line-ups.

The Institute for Automotive Service Excellence

Until the early 1970s, there was nothing to help consumers tell the difference between unskilled and skilled auto technicians. Sensing a need for a way to make this distinction, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), an independent, non-profit organization, was founded in 1972. Thanks to the ASE, there are currently about 420,000 professionals with ASE certifications who are spread across all sections of the automotive industry, including car and truck dealerships, standalone garages, fleets, service stations, and franchises.

How does a technician obtain an ASE certification? Well, applicants must register for and clear one or more of the ASEs 40-plus exams. The tests are segregated into specialty areas such as automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, school bus, and collision repair technicians, engine machinists, alternate fuels technicians, parts specialists, and collision damage estimators. When an applicant passes at least one exam and can provide proof of two years of relevant work experience, he can obtain an ASE certificate. However, this is not a one-time affair, because an ASE certified technician has to renew his ASE credentials every five years, which means he needs to prove that he is constantly eligible and has to be retested. These tests are conducted by ACT, which runs various academic and occupational testing programs. The ASE certification tests are conducted twice a year at over 800 locations in the USA. The exams focus largely on knowledge of relevant job-related skills and are not easy to pass. In fact, approximately one in three applicants fails.

How does the consumer benefit from ASE certification? One, it is a valuable benchmark that indicates the measure of knowledge and skills of individual technicians; and two, it helps a consumer gauge whether a repair facility is high-quality (because it employs ASE-certified technicians). Therefore, watch out for facilities bearing the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence logo on any of their advertisements, including Yellow Pages, or on their exteriors.

ASEs mission: To raise the quality of automotive repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals in the automotive industry.

You can gain a better idea of the ASE certification and testing by studying the tests as outlined on www.ase.com:

Now lets take a look at I-CAR

Created in 1979, I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) is also an international, non-profit training organization dedicated to improving the standard, safety, and efficacy of auto collision repair.

To that end, I-CAR promotes the concept of Outward Vision, which is a concept that aims to define the Ideal State of the collision industry as far as technical training is concerned. In this regard, I-CARs definition of the industrys Ideal State is:

That every person in the collision industry has the necessary technical knowledge and skills relevant to their position to ensure a complete and safe repair. I-CAR continues to develop and deliver technical training programs to professionals in all areas of the collision industry. Furthermore, I-CAR provides a communication forum for anyone interested in proper collision repair. Finally, that I-CAR's primary funding is derived from student tuition and services, insuring that I-CAR can remain unbiased in developing courses and services on an industry-wide basis.

The I-CAR Mission Statement:

To research, develop, and deliver quality technical educational programs related to collision repair; to raise the level of available knowledge and recognize professional achievement; thereby improving communication throughout the Collision Repair, Insurance, and related Industries for the ultimate benefit of the consumer.

These are some of the training courses offered through I-CAR for collision repair technicians:

Identification and Repair Decisions; Adhesive Repair; Welding Repair; Repair of Padded Dashes; Refinishing of Plastics; Analyzing Damage; Creating a Damage Report Manually; Creating a Computerized Damage Report; Safety & Environmental Practices

Understanding Automotive Finishes; Preparing the Surface for Refinishing; Preparing the Equipment, Paint Area & Refinish Materials; Tinting; Applying the Finish; Blending;

You ought to be convinced by now, surely? If all that has been said here does not convince you that you need a skilled technician to work on your car, nothing will. As in every profession, there is a need for qualified, trained experts in the auto repair industry as well. And when you go to an ASE certified technician, you can be sure you are dealing with an individual who has kept himself updated on the latest happenings in the industry. Therefore, dont scrounge when it comes to taking care of your vehicle. Settle only for the best, and those few dollars more wont seem like a lot. - 2368

Buying Repossessed Cars During These Trying Times

By Davion Wong

Buying repossessed cars is one way of saving money on your dream car. Indeed, with the economic crisis gripping the entire world, every penny should count, shouldn't it?

Indeed, buying a brand new car these days is like insulting the whole situation. You certainly would not want to break an arm and a leg just to get the car of your dreams. Why not buy cars that have been repossessed, then?

As you must know repossessed cars have been taken over by the federal government or by the financial and banking institutions for the failure of their owners to their dues (taxes, car loans, etc.)

Still, it does not mean that these cars aren't worth your money at all. Actually, you are doing yourself a big favor when you choose to buy repossessed cars. Why, because these cars are still fairly new; they have not been on the road for long.

It may also surprise you to know that a great number of these cars are luxury cars! If you've always wanted a luxury car for yourself; now's your chance to get one at an affordable price. You see, the federal government and financial institutions would rather offer these cars at very low prices than to stock them up in their garage.

Among the best ways you can find repossessed cars to buy are repossessed car auctions. Check you local papers for the schedule of car auctions in your locality. Usually, organizers of these pre-auction events that give potential customers the chance to give the car a once-over. During this time, you may bring a mechanic with you to check the whole thing through. Of course, you wouldn't have to do this at all if you know how to spot check a car yourself.

When going to car auctions, there are things that you need to be aware of. One is the fact that the bid price can go up, so you need to be prepared for this. Remember that car auctions are always jam-packed, and many other people are bound to bid on the same car you have your eye on. More bidders can cause the bid price to shoot up. In order for you not to spend more than what you intend, set a ceiling as to how much you are willing to pay for the car, and stick to it.

Are There any Road Tolls when Driving a Rental Car in Australia?

By Amy Nutt

If you are planning a trip to Australia, the best way to appreciate the vast and stunning scenery is with a car rental. A car is the most practical way of taking in all that the country has to offer. When renting a car in Australia, you not only have to follow all of the traffic laws, but you must be aware of the road tolls that you will most likely encounter.

There are a number of road tolls in Australia. One is required to pay any where from $1.50 to around $8.00 at a toll. When it comes to renting a car, one is responsible for road toll fees. All rental car companies provide written information to customers explaining toll road procedures and how they make payments. In most cases, car renters who fail to pay at the road tolls will have their credit card debited the amount that they owe. There may also be a fine and other fees such as administration charges.

There are a number of methods one can use to pay at road tolls. The following lists a payment options one can use at a road toll:

E-Tags: These tags are electronic 'tags' that record a car travelling through a road toll. The E-Tags are read by sensors at the toll points and the driver's toll account is debited the toll fee. This payment method permits drivers to pass through the toll without stopping. Electronic tags can be used on all road tolls. When approaching a toll, look for the lanes marked with the red and yellow 'E' symbol.

When it comes to rental cars, a company will attach E-Tags to all of their cars. When you return the rental car, you are charged for the tolls that you have used. You can also purchase pre-paid tag accounts. When the pre-paid to balance drops to a specified amount, the toll account is replenished. The tag provider will use your credit card to add funds to the account. If you drive on a road toll without a sensor, a photo is taken of your vehicle's plate number. You will normally have a day to pay before you are fined.

Cash: You can pay cash at the majority of toll roads. There are a few exceptions so make sure you know where they are before travelling. The rental car agency will give you more information. The exceptions to cash payments use electronic methods of payment. As well, some toll booths only accept the exact amount of the toll. If you have the cash, look for signs stating 'auto' or 'exact toll.' If you don't have the exact toll amount, look for the booths marked 'change.' There is now a trend of converting toll roads to a fully electronic format so the cash payment tolls will slowly be disappearing.

Pass: A 'Pass' is a contractual agreement between a driver and a toll provider to travel on specific toll roads. This method is a good option for the electronic toll roads. Cameras at toll points photograph your licence plate number and your toll account is debited.

Driving in Australia is an experience one will never forget. The vast open spaces, astounding scenery, and charming towns, can only be enjoyed in person. A car is the best way to travel from one tourist attraction to another. Being prepared for Australian road tolls will make your driving experience much more enjoyable. If you rent a car while visiting Australia, make sure that you ask the rental company about securing a payment method for all road tolls. - 2368

What Is HO Scale Train?

By James Atkins Jennifer Smith Jon Baker

Model trains, as well as any other reproduction of something that endures in real life, need a scale in order to reproduce the dimensions of the train that they typify. Else, they would look out of proportion.

A scale is calculated by 2 numbers, isolated by a colon. The initial number of a scale shows us the equivalent of the model train. For model trains that are smaller than the trains they represent, this number is always one. The 2nd number represents how the first number would translate to the dimensions of an actual train. So, let us take for instance a scale of 1:20. That implies that if something measures one inch on a model train, it would measure twenty inches on the real train.

HO scale trains are just model trains that use the HO scale, which is the most common scale in countries where English is spoken.

It is interesting to find that HO scale trains can also be addressed H0 scale trains. The confusion began because the O scale, which is the scale HO was modeled after, was Initially addressed 0 scale (as in the number zero). In fact, the nomenclature H0 is still utilized in most countries, while in the United States, Japan and Australia, those trains are addressed HO scale trains.

Its as well crucial to know that the pronunciation of the O is "oh, even in those countries where the nomenclature includes a zero. In any case HO scale trains obtain their name because HO scale is almost half of the O scale. Thence the name half O scale or HO scale.

HO scale trains are scaled at 1:87. As mentioned above, that implies that 1 unit on the HO scale trains equals to 87 units on real trains. Another, peradventure easier to understand, way of demonstrating it, is that 3.5 millimeters (approximately one tenth of an inch) equals to one foot on a real train.

Because HO scale trains are so renowned, there are a lot of manufacturers, with various ranges of prices, so it is not difficult to obtain low-cost HO scale trains that suit a low budget, or more high-priced small pieces of machinery that delight guests and adorn a room or a garden.

Finally, as with all model trains, HO scale trains require a track to move on. Tracks that are built for HO trains are two railed, and powered by direct current. Owners control the speed of the train with a control that varies the voltage applied to the train. They can also switch the polarity of the track, so as to make the train run in the other direction if they wish. - 2368

Hybrid Cars Save You Money

By Scott Vanwinkle

A dual fuel automobile is a vehicle that will operate on two or more types of fuels. There are many alternative fuels available, not just petrol. The advantages to owning a dual fuel automobile are:

Fuel costs are reduced dramatically. For example, compressed natural gas (CNG) in Utah is .73 per gallon. The current petrol price is $4.08 per gallon. To fill a 12.8 gallon tank of CNG would cost $9.34 compared to $52.22 for petrol. If you fill your tank every week your savings would be $2229.96 per year. If you live in a 2 car home the savings would be $4459.92. That is a savings of $371.66 per month!

You may drive in the car pool lane alone by owning a dual fuel automobile. This could save you hours of commute time, thus allowing you more time to spend with your loved ones and not in bumper to bumper traffic.

Dual fuel automobiles when operated with CNG and not petrol are environmentally friendly. The use of natural gas as a fuel reduces vehicular exhaust. Carbon monoxide emissions are reduced by 70-90% and Hydrocarbon emissions by 40-60%. Carbon dioxide emissions, a cause for global warming, are also reduced significantly.

When operating a dual fuel automobile with CNG your costs to maintain the vehicle will go down and the life of your engine will go up. CNG does not contain lead which extends plug life. CNG will not contaminate or dilute crankcase oil.

Many vehicles may run on CNG, Propane, Ethanol, Hybrid Electric, Petrol and Hydrogen. Each type of vehicle will have advantages and disadvantages depending on where you live and the infrastructure of the fueling capabilities. However, most of Americas' fuel crises were produced because we allowed ourselves to have very few options. Owning a dual fuel auto you will never be left without options again. You will be left with your personal choice of what fuel you want to operate your automobile under.

Many conversion kits are available to run your vehicle on LPG, CNG or Ethonal. These kits you can install your self or with a certified mechanic. - 2368

How to Insure Your Imported Car

By Tom Martens

Are you planning to purchase an imported car, or have you bought one already? Insuring an import often is a frustrating and expensive process?but it's not impossible. Just be ready to do some research, ask questions, and probably contact several insurance providers.

While you can get a great deal on the purchase of an import by buying it abroad, you can lose those savings when you pay higher insurance premiums. That is why it is helpful to research insurance before you even buy your import, and to get several quotes to be sure you get the most competitive rate. That's especially true if you are importing a sports car. The rates for sports cars are always higher because of the higher frequency of sports car crashes.

Most insurers will cover an imported car as long as they locate the VIN numbers. If they cannot locate this registration number, then it is up to you to see if they can find the exact model your car in their look-up table. If that doesn't work, you will have to see an agent for another company.

Some companies will only offer policies for the most popular models, and then only for market value. Other companies will write policies for modified imported vehicles as long as the modifications are not "substantial." If the modifications are deemed "substantial," then you probably need to find a carrier specializing in substantially modified imported cars. One carrier may rate your modifications are "substantial," while another may not. That's why it can be very important to do you research.

In addition, some insurance providers will not insure imports that are European versions of a UK car, but with left hand drive. This is something to keep in mind when importing a car and trying to obtain an insurance quote.

Don't forget to check your car's security fittings. These are very important for determining whether your vehicle can be insured at all, and also have considerable impact on cost. Not having the proper security fittings

It's true that finding the right policy for your imported car is usually a chore, but it is not impossible. Research, and ask questions. Get your dealer to give you advice. Ask your insurance provider if joining a club or organization of imported car owners will get you a lower rate?often times insurance companies may special deals with organizations of imported car owners. Make sure you get all the breaks that due to you. Finally, make sure you purchase comprehensive insurance for your vehicle. It's an expensive investment, and you want it fully covered. - 2368

Auto Sales Training - How to Close the Deal

By Mak Habib

Any auto sales training instructor can tell you that a customer already knows what they want before they ever hit the lot. There are five things that they need answered before they actually purchase a car and they look to you as their salesman to answer these questions. They want you to convince them that they are looking at the right car, with the features they want, for a bargain price, on the right lot and at the perfect time. Wow! They sure don't want much do they?

They are Buying the Right Car Once a customer has picked out a car, they will usually linger around it opening doors and looking underneath it. This is your cue to reassure them that they have chosen the right car for their needs. Everyone wants to be reassured they are making the right purchase. There are some who will switch cars thinking they would rather have one with more or less features. Your job is to reassure them that "this" is the right car for them.

Car Salesman Tip - the Features are Important Most customers view the features as very important. They want to make sure they are not paying for features they don't need. This means the better the features, the more you have to convince them they need them. For instance automatic seat adjustments - you need to convince them that instead of having to readjust the driver's seat after someone else has driven the car, the seat automatically senses your settings and adjusts before you even start the engine.

Having Pride in your Dealership Builds Confidence Along with selling the car and its features, you are also selling your dealership to the customer. Customers have to feel like they can trust a dealership before they buy from them. This is where you convince them that they have come to the right place to buy their car because you have excellent customer service and excellent mechanics that are more than qualified to do the needed upkeep on their car.

Automotive Sales Training Teaches you the Price is Right Most people enter a car lot knowing how much they want to spend and head straight for the cars in their price range. This makes your job easier because they already know what to expect when it comes to price. If they have confidence in the dealership, they will not even consider the price being a problem, after all they came to you.

Is the Time Right for Their Purchase In the economic downturn, many people are concerned this may not be a good time to make a major purchase. You must convince them that it is the perfect time that interest rates are low, prices are low and create an urgency that makes them act on that purchase. - 2368

Learn Advanced Car Bodywork Restoration Techniques

By Mario Goldstein

Auto body Repairs Using Sand Blasting Equipment: A restoration requires you to make a choice as to which method you are going to use. In order to do this you really need to categorize the levels of restoration.

Category One - Light to Medium fix ups Mechanical repairs and repainting The basic mechanical work is done first to ensure safety of the vehicle components. This followed by minor body works and refinishing touch ups.

Mechanical repairs with replacements and refinishing Some mechanical parts are replaced as needed. Little more detail is required in the bodywork.

Category Two - In Depth Restoration Similar to the mechanical repairs with replacements with the refinishing more in depth. Some taking apart of the vehicle is required to attend to rust and corrosion of key parts. Items have to cleaned, refurbished or replaced such as drive train parts, suspension and underbody parts. Close color match of body is required and trim may need replacing. Cars restored under this category are often pampered and not used on a daily basis.

Category Three - Just off the Assembly Line Restoration here entails making the car look like it?s just been manufactured. Showroom quality. No body fill can be used in these restorations as well as fiberglass body panels except for some Corvettes.

Category Four - Show Piece This is the museum category and is really not applicable because they are those that are only found in the Museums.

Getting Down to Sandblasting Sandblasters work off of compressed air and are either pressure feed or suction feed which are the cheaper of the two. The only drawback is that part of their energy goes into drawing up the material however; they don?t require an expensive pressure tank. Pressure feeds do require a pressurized tank, but they work extremely well.

Sandblasting is effective cost saving and messy. Should only be done outdoors. With the right grade of sand the results taking it right down to the metal and removing the rust pits. It works effectively on other parts as well. Make sure you apply a flash rust treatment to prevent rust till you get the primer on.

The one thing to remember about sandblasting is do not over do it. As soon as you hit the bare metal stop.

You can use silica sand for various other grades just be sure to be careful with what you use. For light touches, you can use the ground or English walnut shells.

The siphon blasters are a lot less expensive than the pressure blasters. Remember to remove the hardware and trim before blasting and make sure you wear the proper body protection as well ensuring you have a proper hood and gloves. Preferably, a supplied air hood would be ideal.

Sandblasting can be extremely effective provided the right techniques, tools and materials are used in a safe environment. Many individuals are against sand blasting because of the damage it can cause. They are right it can work against you but only if you go beyond what is required. The whole key to success is stopping when you hit the bare metal. - 2368

3 Easy Tips To Troubleshoot A Stalled Engine

By Brad Johansine

When you're waiting at a traffic light, stop sign, or any circumstance in which your car idles, that is when the engine produces the lowest level of emissions it ever will. Idling is critical for your vehicle's engine to remain in operation without requiring fuel. Unfortunately, problems manifest; engines can die while idling. The challenge is determining the root cause.

There are several steps you can take to help diagnose the issue, which I'll explain below. It's worth noting you'll need a few diagnostic tools. If you're not willing to purchase them and spend some time exploring your car's engine, you may be better served by having a mechanic look at it.

#1 - Test The Fuses

Follow the easiest and least expensive path first. In this case, that involves testing the fuses. To do so properly, you'll need a test light. There's a rod with a bulb attached on one end and a clamp on the other end. If the fuses are sound, the bulb will light up.

#2 - Scan For Codes

When anything goes wrong inside your car's engine, your vehicle will generate and store a diagnostic code. That code will provide a valuable clue regarding why your engine is stalling out. You'll need to use a special scanner or reader to access the code. If you don't own a scanner, you can usually purchase one for under $100 at your local auto supply store.

#3 - Check The Hoses

In order to continue idling properly, your car's engine relies on the vacuum supplied by a number of hoses. For example, a hose provides vacuum to the intake manifold. If there are any leakage or breaks in that hose, it can cause your engine to stall.

Check for any splits or ruptures that might be affecting the vacuum. If possible, have someone lightly place pressure on the gas pedal while you're looking under the hood. The reason is because the leaks will often be difficult to see, especially if they're on the underside of the hoses. Pressing on the gas pedal often produces a whistle that makes finding - and fixing - leaks easier.

Start With The Easiest Factors

There are a number of other tests you can perform to figure out why your engine may be stalling. For example, you may want to check the idle air control motor, look for tar build-up, and test whether the EGR valve is failing. The culprit might even be a malfunctioning torque converter that is preventing the clutch shoes from disengaging properly.

Having said that, the three items above are the easiest to check and least expensive to fix. Test the fuses, scan for diagnostic codes, and check the hoses for leaks. Unless you have a significant amount of auto repair experience, the other potential issues should be handled by a trained mechanic. - 2368

Driving School Lessons, Different Schools For Different Needs

By Johnny Robertson

When people think of driving school lessons, they often think of a person driving a well marked car and give that driver a wide berth since the motorist recognizes that the driver of that learner car is very inexperienced. In reality, driving school lessons are available for any level of driver and driving schools are widely utilized by people in all walks of life.

Many high school or secondary schools offer drivers education classes. These classes include classroom work and on the road driving experience with an accredited teacher. During one class period, a teacher will take a group of students out on the road. Each student will have the opportunity to operate the motor vehicle. The teacher will make comments and corrections to the driver and all of the students in the automobile will share in the educational experience.

If the secondary school doesn't offer drivers education or the student is out of secondary school and needs driving school lessons, there are companies that offer driving school lessons. DIY Approach For Building A Flat Roof Carport: Part One

By John Moore

I am just about to start to build a flat roof carport. I have spent some time considering what type of carport would be cheapest and easiest to build. Although I suppose the cheapest and easiest would be a metal carport kit, I wanted to have the build it myself experience so that eliminated carport kits as an option.

I have researched the necessary steps that I will have to take in order to get going with this project, and the very first thing I need to do is apply for my building permit. As I understand, since this will be a fairly basic type of structure, my plan that I submit with the permit application need not be a CAD drawing or anything fancy like that. Of course I will have to include accurate measurements, heights, and distances from existing structures etc, as well as electrical diagrams and such, but this is certainly something I can draw up myself after having consulted an engineer regarding spans and loads.

The only hiccup that I ran into when applying for my permit, and this was not so much a hiccup as an oversight on my part, was the fact that my property taxes are going to increase as a result of building my new carport. I shouldn't have expected any different, of course the carport will increase the value of my property, therefore my taxable value will increase. One minor comfort is the fact that my carport is not going to increase my taxes nearly so much as a fully enclosed garage would.

My next step is to sketch out what I want the carport to look like. I know it will be made primarily from wood. I prefer the look of wood over most other materials. Also, when using wood as a material there are some nice lattice work and finials that can be incorporated into the design. I want the carport to have a Victorian look that compliments my house. Home Depot has a wide range of wooden decorative finishing details to give me inspiration. I will browse there sometime this week.

The final step before actual construction is to get my plans approved by an engineer. I have a lot of building experience but it is best to have a certified engineer go over the plans carefully before I even start the foundation. I think there is a very good chance that I might use the flat roof as the base for a second story addition at some point in the future. I don't have the money to do the second floor addition right now but I want to have the option in the future. Accordingly, an engineer can help me calculate the load I need to plan for. I may do the second story addition in steps. Perhaps in a year I will build a deck with outside access.

So that's as far as I've gotten so far with planning my big summer project - I just need to wait for the ground to dry out a bit since the spring has been pretty muddy, but I'm hoping to start digging some footings by the beginning of June. Even though I only have weekends to build my new carport, and I will certainly lose a few to fishing trips and weekends at the cottage, there's still no reason that I shouldn't get the whole thing built and finished off before fall. That will give me plenty of time to finish the details and painting before it starts snowing. - 2368

Driving School and its Many Advantages

By Johnny Robertson

There are a number of reasons why going to a driving school is a good idea. The lessons learned in driving school can unequivocally make you a better driver. Of course, saying that is easy; you may still need to be convinced. That is definitely no problem. Throughout the course of this article, we are going to discuss the many reasons why taking driving lessons can be so advantageous.

In this day and age, most of us who are of an age have to drive. We need to get to work, we need to get to school - we just need to get around, in other words. Teenagers, especially, are always eager to get their drivers licenses. They do not want their parents to continue driving them to school, they do not want to rely on public transportation.

There are a ton of schools nowadays that have a lot of different education programs to teach teenagers how to drive, however, a lot of them are simply not long enough. Sometimes they only last just a few weeks and to be honest, that is simply not long enough for a kid to learn how to drive and drive safely. That is why driver's ed is so important to everyone, the lessons are absolutely invaluable

So, needless to say, taking an extra course at a school for driving is definitely beneficial. You do not have to be a teen to take such courses either. Adults can benefit from them as well. If you have not driven a vehicle in a while, you can take a course. The same goes if you simply want to sharpen your driving skills.

The teachers whenever you are taking driving school courses outside of a high school are certified and qualified to teach drivers education, while most teachers inside the school are not. That is another reason why having a driving instructor that is qualified is so important and also less stressful for a lot of the new drivers! After all, being taught by a parent or another family member can be very difficult.

You see, these people will teach by their own knowledge. You will learn their own personal driving habits and may not be the correct ones. Thus, you could wind up learning habits that may be wrong. That is not a good thing, to say the least. By learning with a professional, you are guaranteed to learn the correct techniques.

A good point about taking a driver's education class in a professional school is that you will get a certificate. This certificate can actually make it a lot easier to get a license should you move to another country or state. Or, if you want to drive a van of some sort and need a special license, having that certificate will really help you.

Perhaps best of all right now, taking lessons at a driving school can actually help you to get cheaper car insurance rates. It is seen as a safety measure, and auto insurance companies always appreciate that. It proves you are seriously dedicated to becoming a better, safer driver. - 2368

The Selection Of Materials For Your Outdoor Shed

By Ryan Henders

There are many aspects about building a storage or garden shed that you have to be conscious of but one of the most fundamental is the materials it is made from. Years ago, just a simple steel shed is basically all that was accessible and really required. They were sort of tucked away at the back of the yard where they weren't all that noticeable.

Over the last few years backyard architecture has become very prominent. The new fad is to extend the indoors out. This means that some patios actually look like an extension of the living room. This has created the need for garden sheds that are more esthetically attractive. Not only are these sheds available in much more attractive looking metal but you can now get them in vinyl and wood as well. There are a couple of things you are going to want to think about when making you choice of materials.

The wooden sheds or as some call them timber are probably one of the most pleasing esthetically and often the favorite choice. They are not the cheapest material though and are perhaps a little pricier than the rest; this is most certainly the case if you are purchasing quality wooden sheds. Some of these actually may be twice the price of a steel shed for example. They are durable and long lasting if treated properly. They are also treated for insects so that's not a problem. They certainly are not inferior to the other types of sheds and it's a certainty that what you are paying for is the esthetics of the shed. They certainly do accent the landscape when put in the right place and are the right size and style for the area.

Another popular material for sheds is the vinyl siding. At first they were not all that accepted but since vinyl, siding has been so popular in house siding it has removed the stigma of the garden sheds in vinyl not being durable enough. They certainly are cheaper than the wood and actually are quite attractive as well. They have some great benefits in that they do remain cooler in the summer months compared to some of the other materials. Being that they are vinyl there is no concern about rusting as there is with the metal or steel sheds. These vinyl sheds handle the cold weather as well. An added bonus is they are lightweight yet durable and very easy to install.

Steel sheds are probably the least expensive but very close in price with the vinyl. They are probably better suited for hard items such as bikes and tools. They are durable and if esthetics is not a big issue then you do get value for your money. These sheds themselves have come a long way in becoming more attractive over the years as well but still don?t really compete well with the other materials when it comes to looks.

So knowing the basic materials now allows you to make an informed choice as to what best suits your needs as well as your budget. - 2368

Meeting People On Mississippi Delta Cruises

By Anthony Herbert

The fact that lovers of fun, recreation and nature's gifts of life are bound to learn, enjoy and see a lot of things that will leave a lasting impression cannot be overemphasized when going through the Delta where history and culture have together made a unique place to the world and entire human race on Mississippi delta cruises. Between the famous Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers lies the Mississippi Delta northwest of the state of Mississippi which has Batesville, Greenville and Marks,

Is it Possible to Run Your Car Or Truck With Water?

By Brendan Sommers

It is understandable that many people have doubt that you can run your car on water. In fact, in many ways, they are right. Currently there is no affordable car on earth that can run entirely on water, and converting your car to run on nothing but water is probably a million dollar investment in time and research. There is, however, a way to turn your own car into an incredibly inexpensive hydrogen powered hybrid car, simply by adding some home made machinery that you can easily create yourself.

So when I found out that this technology actually worked - that I could improve my gas mileage considerably as well as increase my fuel efficiency by using tools and equipment that I could buy at any local hardware store, I was overjoyed. Finding an affordable alternative fuel source to combat these high gas prices was just the relief I needed in order to ensure that I would be able to save some money this winter and beyond.

What many don't know is that HHO gas is extremely stable and burns very efficiently as an excellent power source. Believe it or not, the conversion has been made really simple due to the conversion manual that has surfaced after years of suppression. This would be a big financial blow to "Big Oil" if the masses found out all at once. As expected though, loads of people have remained skeptical and need valid answers to the questions below.

1) How safe is the water hybrid conversion process? Very safe, as proven consistently by the auto experts. To put it in perspective, you'd have a much better chance of injuring yourself pumping gasoline than getting hurt while performing this easy conversion! Safety is first and foremost so follow the directions exactly as they appear in the manual. Do not keep a flame near the work area, as hydrogen will definitely burn the daylights out of you if ignited!

When you make the decision to power your car on water, it makes it slightly safer (contrary to what many of us have been told). This is because the mixture of fuel will contain less combustible gas than before the water fuel transformation. If you're concerned about your engine, don't be! This specific conversion has been shown to be very safe for it. When you use HHO gas in conjunction, it proliferates a much cooler burn, which causes a great deal less wear on your vehicle over the long haul. This, in turn, will allow you keep more money in the bank so you don't ever have to worry about the price at the pump. This emotional freedom alone is priceless!

2) Does this water fuel technology work with all automobiles? Absolutely! It can be applied to any type of gasoline-powered car or truck. Now, it works fairly better with fuel economy vehicles. If you drive a large SUV or truck, get rid of it! This is because you may not see as large of a jump in fuel economy as light-weight, less fuel-demanding cars / trucks. I suspect in a few years America will be like many other countries, in that, SUV's will be a rarity because they will be out of reach for the middle class.

Considering that no analyst can see gas prices decreasing at any point in the near future, these manuals about how to convert your car to run on water may be your only chance at saving money on gasoline over the next several years. And considering the cost of the manual and all the parts used to create it can actually be less than the cost of filling up your gas tank, you should consider purchasing one of them quickly, as they will pay for themselves in a matter of weeks.

If you want to reduce the impact you have on the environment and stop paying such high prices for gasoline, you can do so by running your car with water. The process to create the machinery is incredibly simply and inexpensive, and it is now easy for just about anyone to convert their car into a water powered hybrid. Don't let the big oil companies win this battle. Convert your car today. - 2368

How to Get a Campfire Going

By Jim Johnson

It has long been the custom to have a campfire when tent camping and sometimes it is a necessity. The size you make the fire will depend on whether you are going to use it for warmth or cooking, maybe you are going to do both. This article will show you an easy and fairly quick way to make your campfire.

First you have to find out if you are allowed to have a campfire in your campsite or your area of family tents. It is also true that one of the main causes for forest fires are campfires. So before light your fire up get permission to do so either from the park attendant or the forest ranger.

Now that you have gotten permission, then you need to choose the spot for making your campfire. The experienced campers recommend that the safest area for campfires is at least 10 feet from any family tents or other things that can be caught on fire, like your clothes that are hanging outside, trees, and so on. Remember anything can happen when you are outdoors. The wind can be calm one minute and blowing the next right toward your tents!

Now that you have selected the area, you need to collect up some wood. Good size sticks, barks, and twigs are great to collect if you don't want to have to chop the wood. But make sure the wood is dry that you are collecting so the burn easier.

Once you have gathered the necessary 'fuel' for your fire, spread a tarp over your selected area. This will prevent you from leaving any debris or campfire left overs when you pack up and leave. Once the tarp is spread, some soil over it and spread it evenly. The soil acts to insulate the soil beneath from the campfire's heat, so make sure to spread it thickly.

Then you need to lay the wood in a teepee shape. To do it properly you place dry twigs and leaves in the middle of the teepee, and place the larger wood pieces around the twigs and leaves. This helps catch the small stuff on fire quickly, and this is what catches the larger pieces on fire.

After these bigger pieces do catch on fire, then place some of the same size pieces on the fire around it. It is great to cover the wall of the teepee using the bigger pieces of wood. Just remember to leave the top of it open to the air flow. This will permit enough oxygen into the teepee. You will have a nice steady fire as long as you have enough oxygen to help it burn.

When constructing your campfire, be sure to always make it to a size, where you can maintain complete control of it. In the event you are going to be using the fire to cook with, just make the fire a bit bigger and strong by adding more wood to it. For warmth the fire can be a smaller one. The campfire should always be completely put out prior to people going to their family tents for the night. - 2368

Driving Law And Rumours About Ways Around Them

By Christos Chalfont

There have been theories about loopholes in the law for years. People hear things about if this isnt checked or if the police forget to do this then they cant arrest you and most of the time, these things just arent true.

Probably the most common way out people think that they have is when a police officer makes a mistake on a traffic offence ticket, e.g. speeding, red traffic light offences etc. and most of the time, you simply wont have an argument.

This is a false belief because traffic offence tickets are not official evidence. They are simply summaries of the incident for referral. If you were to challenge the validity of the ticket because the officer had made an error on it, then all that would happen is; the officer in question will have to write up a detailed report which he will not make a mistake on and a court summons will be sent to you.

However, if you dont believe that you have committed the supposed offence and the officer has made a mistake on the ticket, you may be able to use it as evidence that the officer paid insufficient attention to the incident and has a sloppy approach.

However if you did actually commit the offence and a police officer catches you, you dont really have a leg to stand on.

Another theory that has come up is that when the police ask you who was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence, you dont have to tell them because that would violate human rights. People think that if you are the registered keeper then you dont have to answer the question who was driving it as your human rights allow you to withhold this information.

This is simply not true, there has been an amendment to international human rights in this regard meaning that this information has to be provided at the request of the police or you will be liable for a hefty fine and six points on your licence as they claim that the compromise in human rights is proportionate to the need for road safety.

Something else that is fairly common is that when people have insurance policies whereby they can drive other peoples cars with their permission, they will buy a new car and before they are changed to the registered keeper of the vehicle, they drive it around believing that they are insured to do so having kept their insurance on their old car, because officially the new one belongs to someone else.

This is also a false belief. If you have paid money for the car then as far as the law and insurance goes, that car is yours and if you havent switched the insurance over, then you are driving without insurance, which is of course illegal. - 2368
