How To Fix Your Golf Swing

By Ben Johnson

It is not easy to make your game perfect, especially when it comes to golf. Mastering the techniques and styles may take years to some people. But for those who are trying to fix their golf swing, here are some tips and instructions you need to follow.

You should start with gripping your club with your left hand. Your left thumb should be along the shaft. Next, warp it with your right hand in a way that your right palm cupped your left thumb perfectly. Point slightly your knees as you making a posture. Your right foot should point straight ahead. And your left foot should point a little to the left. Make your stance wider if you have a longer club.

Elbows and arms should be close as possible. Point your right and left elbow directly at your right hip and left hip, respectively. Next, try making an imaginary flat plane from your shoulders and the ball on your mind. Doing a back swing requires that you begin at your hands followed by your arms and shoulders. Throughout the swing, your hand should move parallel with the imaginary flat plane.

While doing a back swing, don't let your left knee collapse towards your right knee. This can cause your shoulder to drop and your hips to sway and overturn. To keep this from happening, imagine your left knee departing towards the target. Your stance is correct if you feel tension and stability in both knees. Also, to make it easier for you, try to imagine a basketball between your knees.

To do a downswing, first rotate your hips back towards the ball. This will give you enough power to strike the ball. When the club already made contact with the ball, your left wrist bone should point at the ball. Keep in mind that if your club went outside the ball-to-target line, you'll be in trouble.

Additionally, out-to-in swing can cause a golf slice. It is cause by an open address position. Making an open address position would make it difficult for you to do a correct back and down swing, to correct this problem making an imaginary ball 3 or 4 inches in front of your golf ball. Before you strike the golf ball, follow the path towards the imaginary ball.

The instructions you had read are meant for right-handed golfer. For left-handed golfer, replace the left hand with right hand, right hand with left hand, left palm with right palm and so on. Lastly, a friend who is very experience in golf can also help you out. Let him/her observe you so that you will know what part of the swing you need improvement. - 2368
