The Cordon or Wall System of Growing Grapes

By Abraham Kiyoski

The strong-growing varieties can be grown as cordons if the site is warm and the soil good. The rows have to be 6 feet apart and the cordons 10 feet apart in the rows. The cordons are trained horizontally and thus stakes and wiring must be provided. Under this system a stake with a minimum diameter of 3 inches, and preferably chestnut, should, when 2 feet of its base has been thoroughly treated with Cuprinol, be driven into the ground securely so that the top is 2 feet 3 inches above soil level.

In the spring choose the stoutest and strongest growth and tie this perpendicularly to a stake. Cut out all other growths and concentrate on this one. Do not carry out any summer pruning, just let this strong rod develop naturally. Next January cut this rod back to within 3 buds of its base. When the 3 buds grow out, keep them, tying them to stakes or bamboos so as to form a goblet shape. Do not do any summer pruning.

Once again the vine is allowed to grow naturally the first year and then it is cut down to within two buds of its base. The strongest of the shoots that result is kept and is tied perpendicularly to a stout bamboo cane. All side growths that develop are pinched out with the thumb and forefinger to their base. When all the leaves have fallen, the long cane should first of all be tied to the stake and then should be carefully bent so that it can be tied along the lower wire. This bending of the cane, at an angle of 90 degrees, is important because the flow of sap is checked.

Red Spiders can be detected by examining the back of the leaf with a magnifying glass. Red Spider is a bad name. Yellow Mite would be better.

Some people give each vine one stake, 4 feet out of the ground, and then, instead of tying the rods out to 'form a goblet, they merely tie the tips of the rods to the top of the stakes to form an inverted cone. By the way, do not allow the young cane to go on growing after the requisite number of bunches of grapes have been produced. You should always pinch out the growing point at 3 leaves beyond the top hunch.

When growing a vine against a wall the pruning may be similar. The rod instead of being taken along a lower wire can be trained, with a main rod growing upwards and with side permanent rods trained out at right angles. Thus a series of horizontal cordons are formed and the laterals they produce are pruned back hard each January. These are tied to wires stretched tightly in between the main wires. - 2368

How to Avoid Car Accident

By David Halbert

A large amount of people die each year in car accidents. Mostly, these accidents occur as a result of an error of one driver overtaking the other vehicle, or driving the car too fast. The additional factors like terrible state of the road, mountainous regions, slippery road, or snow falls etc also contribute a huge deal in causing accidents. Here are a number of tips which everyone should follow in order to steer clear of accidents.

Avoid the "fast lane."

Always use right or centre lane as it allows you the option of escape routes when you have to alter the lanes fast. History is obvious that the majority of highway accidents happen in left lane. Additionally, if you are in the" fast lane" you will be more obvious to highway patrol.

Keep your eyes scanning the area ahead.

It is always smart to be aware of the area in front of the car right ahead of you. This way it will be possible to predict any issues, and would have enough time to respond in case you have to apply brakes all of a sudden. This may help you in preventing a car accident by hitting the car in front of you

Beware of blind spots.

Side mirrors and rearview mirrors should be adjusted properly to view the traffic behind you, but you should not totally rely on them. It is advisable to look directly into the lanes beside you. Take into consideration the blind spots for other drivers around.

Drive with your hands in the 9 and 3 o'clock position.

It has been seen that many people drive with one hand at 12 o' clock position, or their hands rest at the bottom of the steering wheel. This is a lazy way of driving and not recommended at all. The 9 and 3 o'clock position gives you maximum vehicle control.

Get racecar driver control of the wheel.

You will have improved control over your car if you shift your seat close to steering wheel. In this place, your back rests alongside the seat and your arms are outspread. This is healthy for your arms as they will not get weary, and you have lot of time for any preventive measure.

Judge a driver by his/her car's condition.

Get away from the person whose car's body is damaged or dirty. This is the sign of inattentive driver. Also be aware of the person's who are drifting in the lane; they are most likely drunk or cell phone-preoccupied drivers.

The nighttime is not the right time.

Some people prefer to drive at night to avoid traffic, but many times it is more dangerous than driving at the day time. Increase fatigue and blurry vision at night requires more careful driving. You may also encounter joyriding teens or drunken people driving at this time. Also, you have to be more careful at midnight when people are coming from parties or sports arenas.

Driving is not a lazy activity; it's an exercise of self-control and self-protection. All above mentioned tips are not perfect ways which could stop a car accident, but still you can use them in order to lessen any unanticipated risks and in addition to stay away from any blunders leading to an accident because of your fault. - 2368

Using Mini Trampoline Rebounders During Pregnancy

By Jane Bracken

The best trampoline to use is the rebounder, but most websites do not recommend using mini trampoline rebounders during pregnancy. This is mostly a blanket declaration that does not consider instances in which using a rebounder is perfectly acceptable. The safety of the rebounder during pregnancy must be considered on a case-by-case basis and the woman must consult her doctor before engaging in this exercise. Some women have found that rebounding is their preferred method of exercise during pregnancy. They pay close attention to intensity and comfort by listening to their bodies and monitoring their condition throughout.

The intensity of the workouts during pregnancy depends upon the intensity of the workouts before pregnancy and the fitness level they have. Women who were athletic when they were not pregnant can endure higher frequency and intensity than women who were mostly sedentary.

During pregnancy, rebounding keeps the mother active and provides other benefits as well. In addition to helping to relieve incontinence, it can help improve circulation to both the mother and the baby. While many forms of exercise put a great deal of stress on the joints, commonly a source of swelling and pain for pregnant women, rebounding does not place stress on the joints.

When using the rebounder mini trampoline, pregnant women should begin with caution. Begin gently, without clearing the mat. Wear good exercise shoes or go barefoot. When getting off of the rebounder, be careful to avoid injury or harming the baby.

There are some specific exercises pregnant women can do on the rebounder to help relieve some pain and to remain fit and healthy. The aPelvic Rocka is a simple movement that require the woman to sit on the rebounder cross-legged and rock to the left and to the right.

The aBack Archa is an exercise that relieves lower back pain and is very simple like the previous exercise. While on her hands and knees on the rebounder, the woman arches her back, cat-like and as high as she can and then lowers her belly as low as she can.

The woman can strap light weights of three pounds or less to her wrist while she exercises. Squats in particular can be helpful. But she should be careful to remember that doing squats on a trampoline is unlike doing them on the floor: when she straightens up from the squat the mat will agivea, causing uncertain balance. While it can be uncertain at first, the exercise will improve balance.

Rebounders, the best trampolines, can be perfectly fine for use during pregnancy. To be sure, any pregnant woman should check with her doctor before beginning to use one. While exercising, it is important to be alert for any negative effects, such as nausea, dizziness, increased body temperature, heart palpitations, pain in the chest of abdomen, or vaginal bleeding. Each of these symptoms can be dangerous and should be taken seriously. Using a rebounder can be a relaxing and fun way to stay fit and healthy while pregnant. - 2368

3 Reasons To Invest In A Wheel Chair Lift For Vehicle

By Febbe Wallace

These days, it seems you can't go anywhere without driving a car. Even for those who are able to travel with ease, a car is sometimes needed to get to a certain place where public transport like trains and trams cannot.

All the more worse for those who are already struggling physically to climb over a few steps or simply get into a vehicle. Fortunately, there have been many technological advances for mobility devices. There is now a wheel chair lift for vehicle for those who want more convenience.

For many individuals, having a wheel chair alone is not sufficient to travel with ease. Surely you'll be stopping by somewhere to eat or have a few moments to rest, and it's not going to be a breeze getting on and off the car without some extra help. Invest in a hydraulic wheel chair lift if you'd like total independence.

Secondly, buying a wheel chair lift for vehicle may be a huge cost (depending on what type or model you are getting), but this is also because it is definitely a highly beneficial investment. First of all, paying for 2 or 3 helpers at a time is not cheap. Not to mention, your helpers aren't always going to be around perhaps because of illness, holiday leave, absence, etc.

If you invest in a wheel chair lift for vehicle you buy once and the benefits stay with you forever. Also, the lift can be easily sold when no longer in use.

Reason 3:

The third reason is that you can go farther with a wheel chair lift vehicle. There are so many reasons for you to get a wheel chair lift for vehicle. As mentioned earlier, you may need one for long trips. But think about public transport. There are trains, trams and cabs. It can also save you during emergencies when you need to catch a train or get into a cab to go somewhere quick.

There are several types of wheel chair lift for your vehicle and they're all available for you to choose from. Most are light, compact, and weather resistant for maximum comfort and mobility. - 2368

Insuring your Vehicle

By Kay Riter

Insurance is a way to help keep you safe. It ensures that you'll be cover in case of a problem. Car insurance keeps you covered during car accidents. If you get into an accident and you have car insurance, you will be covered up to what was predetermined on the policy you previously set up.

It's almost like setting up an emergency fund for car accidents. You'll have your accident taken care of, except you are covered for as much as your policy is set up for. You aren't actually using the money you gave them.

Today, insurance is available for just about everything. You can insure your car, house, boat, health, life, jewelry, electronics, or yourself in case of disability. Insurance ensures that you'll be covered in case something unexpected happens. You could end up getting into accident after accident or you could go a lifetime without getting an accident, but you would still need insurance to keep you covered just in case. Of course, I hope nobody will ever experience getting into frequent accidents, or an accident at all.

By law, you have to have your car insured in order to drive it on the road. You might hate paying for insurance every month, but you'll be glad you did if you ever get into an accident. It doesn't matter what causes an accident, if there's damages, you're going to have to fix it.

If your car is totaled in an accident, it would cost you a lot of money if you didn't have insurance. When a car is totaled, it means it will cost more to fix than the car is worth. This is why older cars are often totaled more easily.

When shopping for car insurance, don't just go with the cheapest insurance you see. You'll probably end up paying more in case of an accident, and will likely pay more in premiums over time. The cheaper the insurance, the less coverage you'll usually get. When you're in an accident, you want your insurance company to pay as much as possible and you want to pay as little possible out of pocket.

If you really want to save money on car insurance, drive safe. Safe driving will save money in countless ways. Of course, the most important thing is that you save lives, and safe driving will do this as well. If you drive safe and get into no accidents, over time, your premiums will go down. If you drive recklessly and get into accidents often, your insurance will go up at each accident.

Ultimately, make sure you have the best car insurance you can afford, drive safely and defensively, and keep the roads safe. Hopefully in time your payments will get smaller and smaller as you prove you are safe on the road. - 2368

Commercial Truck Insurance And The Law

By Ray Baker

If you run any form of commercial business and you have your own fleet of trucks, you will be required to purchase some level of commercial truck insurance, no matter where in the world you are based.

If you want to educate yourself more about the ever-changing world of commercial truck insurance quotes, my advice would be to sign up for news alerts on the internet, and also hunt down some of the many newsletters and magazines about trucking that you can access online or off.

If you or an employee does have an accident, and you are not properly covered by insurance, the financial implications can be crippling for an averaged sized company. Proper coverage could literally save your company from bankruptcy.

An insurance policy might seem complicated and oddly worded, but in reality it is just a contract between you and your insurance company that sets out your obligation to pay the premium, and the company's obligation to cover any costs in the event that an accident occurs.

If an individual or a company decide to choose the cheapest insurance available to tham, it is important they check all the small print. It's been known in the past that after an accident occurs, the deductible on the policy is so high that the claimant foregoes his right to file a claim because the outstanding amount was so small.

For this reason, it is crucial to ensure that your commercial truck insurance coverage is at a level that protects your business from financial ruin. No matter how lacks a state law might be, always make sure your bottom line is protected.

To you this means spending a small amount of extra money so that your coverage levels are above the legal minimum. In doing that you will ensure that if the worst does happen, your company is fully protected under its commercial insurance policy.

It is better to be safe than to be sorry so make sure that your company's fleet, as well as the cargo it is carrying, is fully covered under the umbrella of your commercial truck insurance policy. If not, you could be left with a whole lot more then you bargained for. - 2368

Europe's Gem: Rome, Italy

By Falco Iburger

Rome may not have been built in a day, but you can spend several days sightseeing around Rome. There is no other city like this history-filled, beautiful city. There is no wonder why Rome was ranked #2 in the 2004 Conde Nast Traveler's Choice Awards. It was only ranked higher by Florence, which is in the northern part of Italy.

The population of Rome numbers almost 3 million people. The summertime climate is hot and dry, while the wintertime climate is mild and rainy. Except for a few specific countries in Europe, passports are a necessity to enter this country. If you are not staying for more than 90 days, then you do not need a Visa, either. October to March are the off-peak months and if you want to have a relaxing time without having to fight the crowds, then these months are the ones that you want to travel.

If you are more into the artistic side of Rome, then you will want to venture out on foot. This will allow you to take side trips into shops. Taking a private guided tour is another great way to see all of the local artistic hangouts. Ask around to see how you can make the best of this artistic side of this gem in Italy.

There are a few places that you do not want to miss in Rome. The Coliseum is one of these places and you can walk across the street and visit The Roman Forum, too. Touring these places on your own or with a guide can make a memory that you will never forget in this history filled locations.

The Pantheon is over 1800 years old and it has not changed in all of this time. It was built as the "temple to all gods" in 125 A.D. This concrete dome is the final resting place of many different people, including the painter, Raphael, and two different Kings of Italy. The building has retained much of the same feel and form as it had during the time of the Romans.

If you have visited all of the places in this article, then you will want to make at least one more stop. The Vatican is not to be missed, with its collections of books, artifacts, sculptures, and more that tell of the history of the Catholic Church. Don't miss St. Peter's Basilica and Michelangelo's Pieta. The Sistine Chapel is not to be missed as well. We all know that this is one of the most visible pieces of art in Europe and possibly in the world. The Vatican is a part of Rome that you definitely do not want to miss.

Many different cafes and restaurants are around these locations, so you should not have an issue with finding somewhere to eat. You will want to wear shoes that are comfortable and try not to carry very much, so that you will be as comfortable as possible. Before you begin your jaunt, check with your hotel concierge to see if there are any discounts that you can use, too. - 2368

How To Get Started In Paint Ball

By Tom Johnson

Paintball is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide and every day thousands of new players join this exciting sport. Many might think it is an extreme sport, and while that is partly true, most extreme sports are individual based, but this sport is very much team based. The sport is hard core, but to win, you really need to work with people.

Paintballs are the brainchild of the Nelson Paint Company. It indeed was an invention that arose from the need to mark trees in the forests. Besides, these were also used for marking cows by cattlemen. Later, when a couple of friends used these paintballs as a survival game, it indeed turned to be the sport that we know as paintball today.

As this is a great team environment game, many corporate companies use paintball wargames in a way to build teams. If this is your first time learning how to play paintball, there are some things that you should do so that you can have a fun save time. Take the time to learn and you are sure to be safe and successful.

For beginners, the most important thing to remember is to protect yourself. Many injuries with paintball have occurred when new people get in the game, and they are not properly geared. The very first rule to be strictly observed is to wear the paintball helmet religiously, which is called the protective goggle system. This is because, though according to the safety rules, the velocity of the balls should not be any greater than 300 feet every second, there is never too much safety.

You want to make sure you cover your skin. Wear long sleeves. Getting hit by a paintball stings. The more you can protect your skin and cover yourself, the better insulation you'll have and less pain from stinging. Make sure you were long thick pants, gloves, and sturdy shoes or boots.

Additionally, use a barrel stopping device. This tool make sure that your paintball gun is not accidentally triggered it. In other words, you make sure your paintball gun does not accidentally get fired.

The way the game works is simple. Players get eliminated when the paintball fired by the opponent break due to an impact and leave a mark of paint on them. A player can also ask for the opponent to surrender when he is within ten to fifteen feet distance before the player fires the paintball at him.

Paintball is fun and enjoyable. Just make sure that you take the time to learn how to play safe and get the right gear. With the right strategy in the right equipment you are sure to be victorious and a lifelong paintball enthusiast. - 2368

How Does Car Insurance Work?

By Amy Nutt

When you got your first car, you probably simultaneously purchase your first auto insurance policy. You may have done so without much thought. Perhaps you purchased the most affordable policy with the coverage your lender required. If so, you should take the time to learn a little more about how car insurance works, so you can better understand the policy you own.

Types of Car Insurance

Understanding how your car insurance works begins with understanding the different types of coverage and which ones your policy has. All car insurance policies have liability coverage. This is coverage that pays the costs of injuries or damage you cause to someone else or another vehicle in an accident. Most states require this by law.

Collision coverage is another common type of coverage. It pays for damage to your vehicle in a collision, even if you were entirely at fault, or if you gave someone else authorization to drive your vehicle.

Comprehensive coverage covers other types of damage to your vehicle. For instance, theft, vandalism, natural disasters, or damage caused when your vehicle is parked would be covered under a comprehensive policy. Many lenders require collision and comprehensive coverage on vehicles that have loans on them.

These are the three basic types of coverage. You may choose to add medical payments coverage, which pays medical bills of people in the vehicle if they are injured in an accident, even if you cause the accident. You may also choose personal injury protection, which is a similar type of policy but also covers lost wages and other expenses. Uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage is also popular. This coverage will pay for repairs to your vehicle if someone driving without car insurance causes the accident. Each states have certain requirements on the amount of insurance drivers must have, so check with your insurance agent to ensure that your policy meets these requirements.

Basic Policy Terms

Your car insurance policy has a deductible. This is the amount you must pay out of your own pocket for covered expenses before you will receive any insurance money. Raising your deductible can lower the cost of your premium. Your insurance provider builds deductibles into the policy to keep you from making a very small claim that will cost them a tremendous amount to process and pay.

Insurance policies also have limits or policy caps. For instance, your insurance policy may cover up to $20,000 in damage to your vehicle and $50,000 in medical coverage. Each state has minimum required coverage amounts, but these minimum amounts are typically very low when compared to the amount that you might need after an accident. Make sure that your insurance policy has adequate coverage. Keep in mind that the lower the policy caps are, the lower the cost of the insurance will be. You want to choose a policy that balances well between a generous policy cap and an affordable premium.

How Insurance Pays After an Accident

If you are in an accident that causes damage to your vehicle that should be covered by your insurance policy, you will submit the information about the accident and the damage to the insurance company. They will send a claims adjuster to survey the damage and provide you with instructions on how to get an estimate on the cost of repairs. Once you have the estimate, the insurance company will send you a check to use to pay for the repairs on your vehicle.

If the accident caused an injury that required medical attention, your medical bills will be sent to the insurance company. Many insurance providers will pay in one lump sum when your treatment is complete. Keep in mind that the insurance provider will only pay up to the policy cap, and you will be responsible for any deductible on the policy.

Car insurance is a necessity, not a luxury. If you are not currently insured, you need to purchase a policy immediately. Understanding how these policies work will help you choose the best possible one for your needs. Protect your insurance rates with a crash-proof car insurance policy. - 2368

What I Thought of 2009 Golf Drivers

By Golf Caddie

Golf club submissions were 2,500 in 2008 (as opposed to 500 a year in the 1990s). There are so many clubs these days that it's very hard for someone to find the right golf clubs.

Companies have their own research department and come out with different technologies every year. Scroll more to read about some of the more popular manufacturers.

Cobra Golf has Camilo Villegas as their sponsor who is playing so well. The most expensive driver they carry is the Cobra L5V which promises maximum face area for its look.

Adams Golf sponsors Tom Watson and is known with its amazing hybrid technology. The Adams Speedline though is its great new driver that has captured the hearts of many, including the Hot List 2009 as it won gold. The rounded sole takes getting used to because it might rock back and forth at address off the tee but once you get used to it, expect to hit it looooong.

Callaway Golf is really pushing the envelope with its high end drivers (all its 2009 models are over $350 a piece). They made two drivers. One with a more traditional shape (FT-9) and one a square shape (FT-IQ). Both are amazingly long and Phil is already using the FT-9. He's not trying crazy things like two drivers though anymore but who knows as he might use the drivers to chip.

Nike Golf has steadily made it into one of the most popular golf manufacturers by signing up Tiger Woods, Anthony Kim and others. In fact, Nike sponsored many of the top golfers in the world and has many amazing drivers.

Titleist is arguably one of the most popular brands in golf. While the Titleist 909D Comp only received a silver award in this year's The Hot List, the 909D2/D3 won amazing awards and captured the gold. It also the leader in look/sound/feel category of all drivers tested in the over $350 series.

Ping Golf's 2009 value driver offering is the G10. With a street price of only $300, this driver has lofts from 7.5 up to as high as 13.5 degrees. The standard length is well over 45 inches and it might be too long for people to have good control.

Taylormade has always been a huge sponsor on the PGA Tour for drivers. The new Taylormade Burner is a great driver and it's even available at a discount at Costco. The driver is a high launch, relatively low spin driver that will fit golfers that seem to hit down on the ball.

Cleveland Golf is a great brand ever since it started the Launcher series. I still play the Launcher 460 Comp and cannot find a driver head that works better for my swing. To say Cleveland makes good clubs is a huge understatement. I love Cleveland Golf. - 2368

Bound For Weight Loss With Rebounding

By Jane Bracken

Everyone wants to be physically fit. However, finding a good way to do that is the problem. Most workouts are time consuming, space consuming, and not enjoyable. Yet there is a way to cancel all of these issues and have a great time getting into shape. That's by jumping into shape with a rebounder!

A rebounder is a mini-trampoline designed to give you a great workout at home or on the road. Some styles, called folding rebounders, fold in half to make them more portable. There is no complicated set-up, no heavy weight stacks, no cords or even electricity are required. The activity is easy on the joints because as you jump, your feet never touch the ground. Your body weight is lifted gently back up into the air for a zero-gravity experience.

Jumping on a mini-trampoline burns more calories per hour (286) than walking at three miles an hour (270) without stressing the ankles, knees and hips. (Based on a 180-pound person.) And you don't have to get out in the scorching heat or freezing cold to do it. Just jump on and work out to your favorite music or place the rebounder in front of the television and watch your favorite program. You can even purchase DVD workouts through rebounder com websites that set your exercise pace with hip-hop, dance, latino or other music styles.

Just like any other aerobic exercise, rebounding makes your heart rate escalate, your muscles get stronger, and your balance improve as you have to keep yourself upright during the jumping. Every jump accumulates to help strengthen your core and back without adding weights or uncomfortable sit ups.

The best part about rebounders is they are cheap. You can get a quality rebounder for thirty dollars but the more durable and better materials are often sold with DVD's and other workout gear for over a hundred dollars. No matter what you plan to do with the rebounder there is one that fits perfectly with your budget.

Mini Trampolines; Bounce Into Fun Fitness

By Jane Bracken

Fitness is a dreaded topic, especially making up a routine. More than likely you have tried to start up a routine or have made a new one and just quit shortly after. Maybe you tried time consuming sports, rainy running, or expensive DVD's that are just the same low class workout.

However if you have something you enjoy - you like to do it, right? If you enjoy trampolines; a mini trampoline in your workout could be great. Mini trampolines are one of the most overlooked workout machines even though most families own one or know someone who does.

Of course, you should check with your doctor before beginning to work out to make sure you have no underlying health conditions that can be aggravated during exercise. After you have done this, you can begin designing a routine. This routine can be selected from a DVD program, or if you are more adventerous you can design it yourself.

One could hardly think of a more fun piece of equipment than a trampoline. Most people have memories from childhood of jumping on trampoline for hours and hours. This same enthusiasm often carries over into adulthood once you try the trampoline at home.

Finding the perfect mini trampoline workouts may sound hard but it really is not. There are sites dedicated solely to mini trampoline routines such as www.jumpforhealth.com, but if you can not spend them money on their DVD's and routines - just check out YouTube.

Routines based on Yoga or Pilates are popular with mini trampolines. Like other equipment, the trampoline helps to improve your balance and core strength while doing the exercises. The dance-based workouts provide more cardio than strength training, while Yoga and Pilates improve strength and flexibility.

Interested in a mini trampoline workout but can not find a mini trampoline? Stores like Sears and Walmart often have them in stock. Before you buy one, make sure it fits your weight to avoid any accidents. Then you are off to enjoy your workouts - but first make sure you pay attention to whatever instruction you have. Making sure you do not jump too high is a great way to avoid injury while working out.

Another important tip is to exercise in a safe area. Be sure that your ceiling is not too low to jump, and that there are no dangerous objects nearby just in case you fall. Jumping is a low-impact and safe form of exercise for healthy people, and it also provides a level of variety that will keep you working out for many years to come. - 2368

Multi-Policy Discount -- Why You Might Not Want It

By Chimezirim Odimba

Buying an auto insurance policy from the same insurer who provides your other insurance policies will get you a discount on all insurance policies. This is called a multi-policy discount.

That said, it may not serve your best interest to do this as you might gain more if you buy each of your policies from different insurance companies. I'll shed more light on this...

We'll assume that a certain profile gets the following rates from 3 different insurers...

Insurer A...

Auto insurance: $2,487

Home insurance: $1,400

Health insurance: $2,320

Insurer B...

Auto insurance: $1,472

Home insurance: $2,120

Health insurance: $2,724

Insurer C...

Auto insurance: $3,500

Home insurance: $2,080

Health insurance: $1,640

You can see that Insurer B offers him the lowest quote for auto insurance but doesn't give him the best quotes for health or home insurance..

So, even if this insurer offers him a 10 percent multi-policy discount the sum spent on insurance would be...

$1,472 + $2,120 + $2,72 = $6,316

$6316 - (ten percent of $6316) = $5,684.40

But look at what he would spend if he buys each policy from the the insurance company with the lowest quote for each policy...

$1,400 + $1,472 + $1,640 = $4,512

Therefore even though he'll get a multi-policy discount if he buys all his policies from one he'll not save as much as he saved by buying from several insurance companies.

$1,172.40 is definitely not an amount you should throw away and that's what he would have lost if he opted for a multi-policy discount.

You might be wondering on how to know whether it is preferable for you to ignore a multi-policy discount or go for it.

So here's how to discover...

Obtain quotes for each policy from different reputable quotes sites. Pick the lowest quotes obtained for each insurance policy and then just compare their total with the amount you'll pay with a multi-policy discount and you'd know which is better for you. - 2368

Phalaenopsis Tips

By Robert Tanner

Phalaenopsis do not grow overly large, because leaves are shed from the base at about the same rate as new ones are developed. Their roots are exceptionally good-looking, often appearing above the pot and remaining airborne.

These are flattened and silvery white, with clearly visible, green-growing tips. They have a tendency to adhere to any surface with which they come into contact. In a greenhouse, they often attach themselves to the bench upon which they are growing.

Roots that have meandered over the rim of the pot are impossible to get back without snapping. Allow them to wander at will, and, when repotting, leave any live aerial roots outside the pot. Any that have died and are shriveled can be cut off.

In addition to the long large flowered kinds, there are other hybrids raised from brown colored species which given rise to a further species of the alliance. Many delightful minature varieties are now available, with a range that extends from white.

Phalaenopsis can bloom at a time, and it is not unusual for them to bloom two or three times in away and to remain in bloom for mare - It is important, however, that they continues to make new leaves at time as flowering. If too many leaves shed, you should cut off any spikes and allow the plant to grow at until it has three or four leaves allowing it to produce flowers.

The plants are mostly extremely attractive, their broad, fleshy leaves often marbled with light and dark green mottling. They are monopodial in their growth, each new leaf extending from a centre, with the flower spikes coming from the base of the lower leaves. - 2368

Tips on Growing Orchids

By Hans Reinhard

It is often mistakenly thought that orchids need a constant temperature in which to grow, yet nowhere in nature does the temperature remain the same both night and day, summer and winter. Wherever orchids originate in the world, there exists a temperature fluctuation, and in cultivation orchids can withstand considerable temperature differences. Indeed, these variations are often the trigger that initiates flowering and regulates growth.

In more severe cases, direct sun will burn the leaves, causing black areas where the sun's rays have destroyed the leaf cells.

Very small greenhouses are unsuitable because the sections created will be very small and the temperatures extremely difficult to manage. Ideally, two or three small greenhouses where the various temperature-range orchids can each be given their ideal would be best, but this is rather an extravagant option for the home grower

The minimum temperature is that experienced on winter nights, and indoors some form of artificial heating will be required to maintain that. A drop of a few degrees is not going to cause any harm, but if the winter night temperature is consistently lower by more than 3C (5F), the plants will suffer. Also, in colder temperatures other problems can arise, such as molds and damp spots on the orchids.

Orchids grown indoors have less light available, and the orchids will only receive this from one direction, so the dangers of giving too much light is not so great a problem. During the winter, it can be a disadvantage if plants are not getting enough light, and it can be difficult to increase this through the window area.

Daytime temperatures should always be significantly higher than those at night, and in winter there should be a rise in temperature of at least 6C (10F). Where temperatures hardly rise during the daytime, humidity naturally rises, and an imbalance occurs that will result in rots and molds. Orchids dislike being cold and wet, but they also cannot tolerate the other extreme of being hot and dry.

The intermediate orchids, which include the showy cattleyas and the handsome, shade-loving paphiopedilums, require a winter night-time temperature that is 3C (5F) higher, giving a minimum of 13C (55F) at night. Wherever possible, there should be a higher temperature by day, but this should not exceed 310 C (86F). Again, temperatures on either side of these recommendations bill cause the plants considerable stress, and over a prolonged period can cause their eventual demise.

At this time, the glass should be cleaned of any paint shading or green algae to ensure that the orchids receive all the available light. This will also add considerably to the temperature on sunny days, thus saving on the artificial heating. - 2368

Temperature Changes in Clouds Create Rain

By Rob Carlton

Our atmosphere is filled with an invisible gas called water vapor. Most, in fact 90%, of the water that is in our atmosphere on Earth comes from the ocean. Ocean water is heated by the sun, and the warmest water evaporates into the warmest air. The warmer the air, the more water it can hold, but no matter what, there is a limit, and when the air becomes full of water vapor, the molecules change from a gas back to a liquid. This is called the saturation point. Weather changes can do much to cause the condensation of water vapor and the creation of clouds. When climate change such as a when a cold front pushes through, thunderstorms will often occur.

The dew point is the temperature that the water vapor has to reach in order to turn back into its liquid form. Condensation occurs when several molecules of water vapor attach themselves to what is called the condensation nuclei. Tiny particles of dust, salt and air pollutants act as these nuclei. When condensation is dense enough to be visible above the ground, it is called fog. Fog is actually a low lying cloud which can effect the current weather.

Cloud formation occurs when condensation happens in the atmosphere. There are high, mid and low level clouds that are made up water vapor, some of which, the higher it climbs will freeze into ice crystals. When the temperatures where the condensation is occurring is warm, or above the freezing mark, the water vapor turns to liquid.

Temperature change in the clouds will cause a change in the water vapor material and can cause an increase in condensation, an increase in vapor volume and a change back into liquid water. When the temperatures are below freezing, the water vapor may condense and become super cooled, but only change to liquid, or they may turn into ice crystals. Clouds need millions and millions of molecules of water vapor to come together so that they can form.

Air masses rise for three reasons. One, is the most visibly obvious, when an air mass meets a mountain, it is going to rise up and go over the mountain. There is actually a name for this rising air mass, orographic lifting. If the air that is moving over the mountain is moist enough, clouds will form. Two, when two fronts meet, the warmer of the two fronts will rise above the cooler front, and the moisture in the warm air will cause clouds.

The third reason air masses rise is when convection occurs. The Earth's surface is heated by the sun, the warm air rises up to their dew point and again cause clouds. Conditions are much more stable when warm air lies on top of the cooler air. The more an air mass rises, the more unstable the air is going to be. - 2368

The Importance of Garage Doors Maintenance

By Steven Gullit

There are several things in a home that are very hard to fix by yourself, when you are not a specialist. Amongst them, prefabricated garage kits can give you a lot of hassle in installing them. Garage owners should not attempt to replace or repair the springs without help from at least one more person, and that would better be someone who did that before.

When trying to remove the broken torsion springs of a garage door, their tension gets released, making them move with an incredible force in all directions. Everybody around that spring is exposed to a big danger.

In order to avoid the risk of getting hurt, one should be conscious enough to hire a professional to do the job for them. Garage door companies usually have staff who comes if asked for.

If one of your garage door springs needs replacement, you'll have to actually change both springs. Although only one has been damaged, the other was exposed to the same degree of wearing, so it is possible, if not very probable that it will break over the following days, weeks or months.

Don't even think to do the operation yourself, if you don't manage to buy or rent a spring tensioning tool. Torsion springs cannot be tensioned with bare hands or with improvised tools.

Modern doors have another kind of springs, which are easier to replace, because they can be tensioned with electric drilling machines. Even so, replacing springs is still not a do it yourself enterprise.

Garage door fixing professionals can be found in Yellow Pages or on the internet, and they are usually fairly cheap, taking into consideration the high level of danger this job implies.

A garage door springs replacement would probably take about 500 dollars out of your pocket. However, in some states, such services may be obtained as cheap as for 75 dollars or so. Do some research within your area and see what you can get. - 2368

Fabric guards mean that even if the seat's been sitting in the sun, your child won't come into contact with hot metal. And many adjustment points allow for a perfect fit, making car travel with babies much easier on everyone.

So you see that even though the price of the Roundabout is on the high side, it lets you transport your child in a convenient and safe way. Auto Insurance -- Disparities; Cheaper Rates

By Chimezirim Odimba

The rate of your car insurance policy is not an indication of its quality. Although you can't get the best without paying for it, you can pay a lot more than you should for an insurance policy. Assuming there is a way for you to get your present insurance coverage for less? Study to see how you can save on auto insurance...

If you need the best price in anything, you would have to go for serious shopping. This is a fact that even a kid knows. This works for most things whether you want to buy home properties or a piece of serious equipment. But if you do properly in auto insurance, you'll make savings that will probably make you drop your mouth in disbelief.

Why is this so? Insurance companies use certain factors to determine a person's risk. However, they all have different views of how much each of these factors indicate a person's risk level. This is significant because what you pay as premium is derived from what they think is the level of risk involved in insuring you. With the same profile and car insurance policy, each insurer will have a different for you. The difference sometimes can be well over $2000. So what do I get from this? I'm happy you asked.

You can lower your auto insurance premium dramatically by getting as many quotes as possible from as many insurance companies as you can. But will not that be really time-consuming? Long ago? Yes! But now, it's no more complicate with car insurance quotes and comparison sites.

You'll only be required to answer a easy questions. This is just to help them to position you. You will get 5 quotes or more for this process that usually takes between 3-5 minutes. The only exception is if you use sites that are operated by an insurance company and not an insurance broker (which gives you more options.

But for those who really want to make as much savings as possible, go to 5 or more of such sites. You're advised to do this simply because you will add to your chances having much more savings. This will make it uneasy for you to miss quotes from insurance companies not covered by any site (They don't usually cover all insurance companies that serve your state).

I don't know about you. But for me, I can give 30 to 60 minutes to what soever that will help me save up to $200. Some people will save up to $1,500 and more by just doing this. What if you could save such? Would you like to save $200, $500, $1000 or more on your auto insurance premium? - 2368

How to Buy Car Insurance

By Samantha Asher

It is mandated by law that you get car insurance, and this is for good reason. If you get into a car accident and you have no insurance, you could end up in a lot of trouble. You could end up paying for your car repairs out of pocket, as well as repairs on a second car if the accident involved another and it was your fault.

You could try to say that you'll never be in a car accident because you are an amazing driver or you don't drive much, but you never know. You could get into any kind of a small fender bender to a totaled car, whether it's your fault or not. You could be spending up to $1,000 or more on car insurance, but it will pay for itself in an accident.

Once you are ready to get car insurance, don't just buy from the first company you find. Your goal in finding insurance will be more than just looking for what is cheap. You also need to get quality coverage. The price and what you'll need will depend on your age, sex, driving history, type of car, year of car, etc.

There are tons of commercials for all different insurance companies out there. Should you choose the funniest, cleverest, or least expensive sounding company? Ultimately, don't listen to the commercials. Find out more about the companies themselves. You want good coverage at the lowest rates, not the funniest ads.

Research is very important in shopping for car insurance. Click on the link below for free car insurance quotes.

You should avoid the really cheap companies. They usually offer little coverage and inferior customer service. The companies that cost a little more give you better coverage and, as long as you maintain good driving, they will offer discounts.

When you get insured, your bills may go down if you go without any accidents. You want to prove to your insurance company that you are safe on the road and that you won't cost them a lot of money.

If you are a bad driver and get into accidents often, you could decide that the cheap insurance will work better, but in either case, bad driving will cause your rates to increase. Learn safe driving and keep everyone on the roads safe! - 2368

Trampolines - Keep Rover Away!

By Jane Bracken

Manas best friend is one of the best companions a person can have in life. Theyare great for relieving stress and having a friend that will never abandon you. However, one place that Fido shouldnat go to is your friendly neighborhood trampoline. While funny to watch if itas not your dog, trampoline can be dangerous for the unsuspecting canine, and itas best to keep them away, but sometimes that can be easier said than done.

When considering the purchase of your new trampoline, don't forget that dogs love to chew on what they will consider their new chew toy. Be alert to how your dog interacts with you in the back yard and consider what may come of your new trampoline at the hands of your dog. One good way to keep dogs away from your trampoline is to use a fencethis can save costly damage to both the trampoline and to the dog.

You can have a fence built to look like whatever your heart desires. Probably best is a fence that surrounds the entire area where the trampoline is, allowing you to keep the dog out. The strength of the foundation is a very important thing to considerwill you secure the posts by driving them into the earth, with cement, or get a mobile fence that just sits on top of the lawn? Another factor to consider is of what the fence will be madea chain link steel fence is probably better than a fence constructed of lighter-weight materials. A third property of importance is the height of the fencesome of the largest dogs can easily jump or climb over some of the smaller fences that people put up, especially if the fence is between them and the exciting new trampoline.

Adding some further barriers to the top of the fence, such as chicken wire, can make jumping the fence even less desirable for pooch. While it may not look the best, it sure does work. Most dogs won't want to get hurt, and will avoid jumping over the fence to stay safe.

Another idea is to install an electric fence or to hot wire your existing fence. This is probably not a first option for many people, but should prove useful in harder circumstances. You can easily control how much of a shock runs through the fence. The best thing to do is to just have the fence provide a stinging sensation. Most dogs will stay away from your fence without ever having to touch it to test it.

The height at which the trampoline is placed could also be a deterring agent. You can keep the height of the legs in mind when trampoline buying to make sure it will be high enough to keep the dog away. This is usually the sturdier and safer option than trying to do your own additional mounting. You can also mount the trampoline only a foot of two higher above the ground by placing a higher foundation under its supports. Of course, putting the trampoline higher does not mean simply placing a few cinderblocks under the legs and being done with it. Safety is priority number one, and you have to ensure that the trampoline is safely secured to the ground in some manner.

Better than keeping the dog away from the trampoline may be keeping the trampoline away from the dog. Even though it takes time and effort to set up the trampoline, taking it down is a certain way to keep unauthorized parties off. Consider a "nursery trampoline" as an alternative to some of the larger trampolines you may see for sale. You can fold it up and stored out of sight and out of mind so that nobody uses the trampoline when you don't want them to. As an added benefit you stand to save a good deal of money, as nursery trampolines are typically much less expensive than their full-sized counterparts.

Keeping the dog inside your house is even better than building obstacles to keep the dog away from the trampoline. Although it is nice to include the dog in our door play, it is probably better not to entice him or her into playing on the trampoline. Take the dog out and play with him or her regularly, so as to reduce the "forbidden love" that many dogs develop for trampolines. Keep your pet in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase a trampoline. In all reality, no matter how hard you try, the dog and the trampoline may sometime get together. The dog is a bigger part of your life than your trampolinenobody ever called their trampoline "man's best friend. - 2368

Fun With Rebounding Trampolines

By Jane Bracken

A rebounding trampoline, also known as miniature-trampoline, is a great way for adults and children to have fun and get in shape. Rebounding trampolines are much easier to fit into a home or budget than a traditional outdoor trampoline. There are many ways to play on a miniature trampoline.

In the game of Snake, two children stand on opposite sides of the trampoline and wiggle a jump rope over the surface of the trampoline, like a snake. A third child then tries to jump on to the trampoline without getting abita by the snake. The object of the game is to jump as many times as possible without touching the jump rope. If the child touches the jump rope, he then changes places with one of the other children. The child who makes the most jumps before being 'bitten' by the snake wins!

Follow the Leader combines jumping on a trampoline with the traditional Follow the Leader game. The 'leader' begins by doing a series of jumps or tricks on the trampoline, which each child in the line must then repeat. A child who misses something in the series is out. You can choose the next leader in one of two ways. The first choice is for the game to continue with the same leader until only one child is left to be the next leader. Or, once every child has had one turn, the leader could pick a new leader from among the children who remain 'in.'

Another game that can be played on the rebounding trampoline is Add On. In this game, the first kid in line does a jump or trick. Then the next person does the same thing the first one did, plus adds on a jump or trick of his own. The kids continue to take turns, each adding one thing to the sequence. If a child misses something or does something out of order, he is out. Keep going until there is only one child remaining in the game.

Your children can also have contests on the trampoline to see who can do a certain move the most times in a row without messing up. Whichever child does the best is the winner. The winning child can then choose the next move to use for the game.

A variation of the above game is to have the kids take turns doing the selected move. Any child who messes up is out, and the rest of the kids continue taking turns until only one child remains. That child then selects the next move.

Another possibility is to set a time limit and have the kids do as many of a certain move as they can before the timer goes off. The kid with the highest count gets to decide what kind of jump or trick is used for the next round.

These games can be fun for children and adults alike. Adults will find that a miniature trampoline can be used for more than just a workout. Children will learn fun ways to get exercise. A trampoline is a great tool which can be used for fun, family bonding, and exercise at the same time! - 2368

A Guide To American Model Train Series - Lionel Trains

By Jack Dubus

The American Flyer is probably the most well known of all model train series. They did achieve their peaks around the 40's and some other peak in the 60's, they had been around for much longer then that. Their popularity is also very famous now too and they are, I feel they are going to be still here another 100 years!

A toy maker in Chicago addressed as William Hafner, in the very early 20th century invented a model train built on a clockwork motor, actually for the use in toy cars. By about 1905 however he decided to put them into use in model trains as well. Good thing he did, the car didn't sell as well as trains.

William Hafner and his partner share the same name, William Coleman approached a small manufacturer of hardware, Edmonds-Metzel. They used this organization to start making clockwork trains in 1907.

They were first commercialized under the name of Edmond Metzel trains, because they were so hot on demand they needed a perfectly new name and they came up with the name of the American Flyer. This came about in 1910. Even the name of the hardware company they were using had too changed its name to incorporate the American Flyer name in it.

They begin selling like hot cakes for few reasons. They were quite cheaper then other popular makes of model trains at the time and because they were also quite a bit more practical then more budget style model trains of the time.

Mr William Hafner left the organisation around 1913. He used the funds he had already made and built up his own enterprise. Colemans American Flyer Trains. It did well for quite a period of time around the first world war. There were no competitors at that time due to the war. Right before the break out in 1938, the founders son with the exact name, took over the business after his father died in 1918 sold the American Flyer to a organisation called A C Gilbert Company. Gilbert already had experience in making toys, but he is clueless about trains.

At the same time he decided to moved the enterprise from Chicago where it was created to New Haven in Connecticut where he lived. He also begun to drastically re design the American Flyer and turned it into an S-scale model train in 1939. It is a copy of the popular O scale which is then the leader of the market.

The S-scale was much tinier then the O-scale and this made it more well known known with enthusiasts as it required less room to setup a proper track. The scale is 1:64, considerably smaller then the O-scale yet still very detailed and accurate.

He also made another change in 1946 that amended the realisticness of the American flyer more so. Model trains, electric model trains at that time had been run on 3 rail tracks. Not practical. He modified it so they ran on two rail tracks, much like their huge counterparts. These tracks had 7/8th inches between each rail. This made the trains operate better as well.

How ever, television was starting to take hold at this time also. This distracted many from their hobbies they would normally spend their extra time on. Likewise at this time, discount chain stores came into play, discounting train sets that organizations like A C Gilbert could not compete with. in 1962, Gilbert traded the American Flyer to Wrather Group. This organisation produced toys as well, but usually on a huge scale and tended to make poor quality as well. Sales of course fell through the floor and in 1967 the corporation went bankrupt.

A superior toy train maker and the market leader at time, Lionel Corporation purchased the American Flyer. This organization itself was having trouble with finances also and they too went bankrupt in 1969, so they sold off the rights to the American Flyer to another manufacturer, General Mills.

This enterprise, General Mills, started trading numerous of the designs of the original designed Gilbert American Flyer, it however sold off everything it bought from at that time Lionel Corporation to Kenner, who then in turn sold the organization to a man named Richard Kughn. This happened in 1985.

Mr Richard Kughn had large success with the firm and design for 11 years, but he sold out in 1996 to a enterprise also known as Wellspring Partners, who then took on the first name of Lionel and named themselves Lionel LLC, which still operates now.

They sell the S-scale American Flyer still. They were actually concentrating on selling other scale models, but in 2002 they started selling more and more of the American Flyer.

The American Flyer nowadays is more then 100 years old and has gone through many extraordinary hands. It is still well known and growing stronger and stronger. Lionel trains will not disappear so fast - 2368
